I have noticed an unhappy-making trend with Portland breakfast places. A whole bunch of them now open at 9 or 10. On weekdays. Apparently Portland is where 20-somethings come to retire, because I am not sure whose schedule works with a 10am breakfast. Early lunch, maybe, but not breakfast.
Every time I run across a new place that opens too late for an 8:30am PDXBreakfast gathering my heart cries a little. Especially when that place is on or just off of SE Division. Once upon a time there was a breakfast place on Division called Ruth’s and I don’t know what time they opened, I just know that when I used to pass there at 5:30am, they were open and there were butts in their seats. Oh, and while I’m at it, get off my lawn.
But times, they are a’changing and I am too stubborn to change with them. Us few and proud PDXBreakfasters will just have to give all of our business to those places that force their staff to get up early enough to feed us at 8:30am. This week, we will be giving our patronage to the good folks who run Juniors. And speaking of Juniors, we know that there are parental units within our cohort, so please feel free to bring your (generally well behaved) kids to PDXBreakfast if you like. Now with school out, we don’t want folks to have to choose between breakfast and leaving their kid behind.
Once again, of those of you who just skip ahead to the details:Thursday, July 24th, 8:30am at Juniors. 1742 SE 12th Ave.
